On June 29 and 30, 2023, Sophie Mathieu, Senior Program Specialist, participated at the 20th International Network on Leave Policies and Research Annual Seminar as a member of the Canadian team.
Held in Athens, Greece, the International Network on Leave Policies and Research brought together researchers and policy advocates from more than 25 countries who are interested in care and family leave. The theme of the 2023 conference was “Leave Policies in Changing Times: New Patterns of Work and Care and Gender and Social Equality.” Dr. Mathieu presented on policy innovation and incentives to support fathers’ uptake of parental benefits.
Earlier this year, the Canadian team prepared a report for leave policies in Canada. It provided a summary of policy details for the four main types of leave (maternity, paternity, parental, and care for sick dependants). The report also outlined other employment-related measures to support working parents.
