Andrea Doucet and Marie-Christine Saint-Jacques receive 2025 Mirabelli-Glossop Award
We are pleased to announce that the Vanier Institute of the Family will be recognizing two outstanding scholars, Andrea Doucet and Marie-Christine Saint-Jacques, with this year’s Mirabelli-Glossop Award for Distinguished Contribution.
The Vanier Institute acknowledges those who have made significant contributions to the national understanding of families and family wellbeing in Canada through their work, their research, or their service or support to families. The award is named after Alan Mirabelli, former Executive Director of Administration at the Institute, and Robert Glossop, former Executive Director of Research and Programs.
Andrea Doucet is a Canada Research Chair in Gender, Work and Care and Professor of Sociology and Women’s and Gender Studies at Brock University. A widely cited researcher and award-winning author, she has helped shape public policy discourse on caregiving, fatherhood, and parental leave policies. Andrea has written extensively on care/work policies and applied groundbreaking methodological approaches to studying families. She is also widely respected for her mentorship to the next generation of family scholars in Canada, having taught hundreds of undergraduate students and supervised more than 50 MA and PhD students. Her sustained leadership and innovative approaches have been recognized and supported through successive SSHRC research grants, including Reimagining Care/Work Policies.
A pioneering researcher in family transitions and vulnerable youth, Marie-Christine Saint-Jacques has strengthened the knowledge base around complex family transitions, including parental separation and family recomposition. A social worker and professor at Université Laval’s School of Social Work and Criminology since 2001, Marie-Christine has tirelessly worked to facilitate dialogue with decision-makers and researchers to promote greater understanding of families in Canada and foster their wellbeing. Her expertise in this field is widely recognized in psychosocial interventions, social sciences, law, and health, both in Quebec and internationally.
Congratulations, Andrea and Marie-Christine!
