Call for proposals

The Vanier Institute of the Family is now accepting funding applications for secondary data analysis of Statistics Canada and other national-level datasets with potential to advance understanding of family diversities and family wellbeing in Canada.

Research proposals should address these priority areas:

  • Family structure: one-parent families, skip-generation families, stepfamilies, blended families, families living apart together, families experiencing infertility;
  • Family work: caregivers, families with remote workers, families with non-standard work schedules, families with self-employment;
  • Family identity: new immigrant families (<5 years in Canada), Indigenous families, racialized families, families with disability, LGBTQ2S+ families.

When developing the research proposal, researchers are asked to include analyses of wellbeing outcomes.

One grant valued at up to Cdn$25,000 will be awarded.

Eligibility

  • This call is open to all researchers with knowledge of families in Canada.
  • Preference is given to early career scholars, including Postdoctoral Fellows, Assistant Professors, and others who have obtained their PhD within the past seven years.
  • Researchers working in Canada or partnering with researchers in Canada are preferred.
  • In the case of international partnerships, funding must be distributed through an eligible Canadian institution.
  • Applications from both public and private sector researchers are welcome.

Schedule

  • February 27, 2024: Call for proposals opens
  • April 23, 2024: Deadline for applications (5:00 p.m. ET)
  • May 14, 2024: Funding notification
  • June 1, 2024: Project start date
  • December 1, 2024: Project completion date
