The Vanier Institute of the Family is pleased to announce that it has been granted viceregal patronage by Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada.

The Governor General extends patronage to organizations aligned with the roles and responsibilities of the Governor General in recognition of their outstanding contributions to society. The Vanier Institute’s work in the areas of Indigenous families and family diversities complements Her Excellency’s priority areas, including reconciliation, diversity and inclusion, and a healthier world for future generations.

“We are honoured to have been granted viceregal patronage by Her Excellency, with whom we share a commitment to reconciliation and building a more just and equitable future for families in Canada,” said Dr. Norah Keating, Chair of the Vanier Institute Board of Directors.

“We are grateful for her support as we advance our vision of a Canada that recognizes and supports the central role of families to the wellbeing and success of society,” said Dr. Margo Hilbrecht, Executive Director at the Vanier Institute. “Doing so in a just and equitable manner requires respect, listening, learning, and a commitment that we are honoured to share.”

Founded in 1965 by the Right Honourable Georges P. Vanier and Pauline Vanier, the Vanier Institute is a national, independent, charitable organization committed to enhancing family wellbeing by making information about families accessible and actionable. Positioned at the centre of networks of researchers, educators, policymakers, and organizations with an interest in families, we share evidence and strengthen the understanding of families in Canada, in all their diversities, to support evidence-based decisions that promote family wellbeing.
