Anti-Black racism is a specific form of racism that targets people of African descent. It has its roots in European colonialism, the slave trade, and state-sanctioned segregation. It is recognized as harmful to the psychosocial, educational, and health outcomes of Black Canadians. However, there is limited research on the effects of anti-Black racism in early childhood. This study examines the effects of anti-Black racism through the lived experiences of Black families with young children and early childhood educators (ECEs).

This research builds on our growing understanding of the Family Identity component of the Vanier Institute’s Family Diversities and Wellbeing Framework.
