Funding Opportunities

The Vanier Institute of the Family supports and promotes capacity development in family research and family science by supporting early career scholars through several funding opportunities.

Secondary data analysis grant

Every year, the Vanier Institute provides funding for one secondary data analysis research project that utilizes Statistics Canada and other national-level datasets. All analyses address the priority areas outlined in the Family Diversities and Wellbeing Framework (Family Structure, Family Work, and/or Family Identity), and have the potential to advance understanding of family diversities and family wellbeing in Canada. This award was created to support early career scholars and encourage the reuse of Statistics Canada and other nationally representative datasets.

Travel funding for doctoral student postdoctoral fellows

Despite it being a critical part of their professional development, participating in conferences is often challenging for new scholars due to a lack of funds. As part of our commitment to building capacity in family science and supporting the next generation of family scholars, the Vanier Institute awards travel grants to doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows to present research, facilitate roundtables, or lead workshops about families in Canada at conferences. These funds are intended to help support the costs of travel, accommodations, meals, and conference/workshop/course registrations. Applicants’ research must be related to family diversities and wellbeing in Canada.
