Grant Awarded for Secondary Data Analysis, 2025

This spring, the Vanier Institute of the Family welcomed research proposals from early career scholars to investigate family diversity and wellbeing using existing, nationally representative datasets.

We are pleased to announce that Winnie Yang, Grant Notley Memorial Postdoctoral Fellow Department of Sociology at the University of Alberta, has been awarded $25,000 to support her project titled “Who Gains and Who Loses? Earnings Trajectories Following the Transition to Marriage and Parenthood Among Same- and Different-Sex Couples.”

She will draw upon Longitudinal Administrative Databank (1982–2022) to explore variation in the earnings effects of marriage and parenthood for same-sex families in Canada, filling a critical gap in our knowledge about work-family trajectories in same-sex households in the post-marriage equality era.

We look forward to sharing the results of her study in December 2025.

Congratulations, Winnie!
