Susan Aglukark, O.C., PhD
Susan Aglukark joined the Vanier Institute’s Board of Directors in June 2018. Susan is one of Canada’s most unique and most honoured artists, and the first Juno Award-winning Inuk singer–songwriter. Raised in Arviat, Nunavut, she has had a remarkable career, through which she has shared her perspective and stories across Canada and around the world.
Over the years, Susan has worked with a variety of non-profit groups focused on Inuit and Indigenous youth, including running art journaling workshops for youth in Attawapiskat. She also founded the Arctic Rose Foundation in 2012, which helps communities address diverse challenges affecting youth, such as education, suicide and health.
Susan received a Lifetime Artistic Achievement Award at the 2016 Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards.
