Funding Announced to Strengthen Community Supports for Military and Veteran Families

On Monday, October 22, 2018, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence The Honourable Seamus O’Regan announced a new funding agreement with the Vanier Institute of the Family to strengthen community supports for military and Veteran families in Canada.

This investment from the Veteran and Family Well-being Fund will support the creation of a new resource for Early Learning and Child Care (ELCC) professionals, training institutions and other organizations who work with military and Veteran families who have young children.

This upcoming publication, Early Childhood Educators Working with Military and Veteran Families, will continue with the Vanier Institute’s goal of enhancing “military literacy” – awareness of the unique experiences of military and Veteran families and the “military life stressors” (mobility, separation and risk) that can affect their well-being.

The Vanier Institute will collaborate to disseminate these resources with organizations, including the Canadian Child Care Federation (CCCF), who are connected to over 100,000 people who work and study in the field of early learning and child care and 500,000 families with young children.

Early Childhood Educators Working with Military and Veteran Families will be the third “military literacy” resource produced in collaboration members of the Canadian Military and Veteran Families Leadership Circle, alongside Family Physicians Working with Military Families and School Counsellors Working with Military and Veteran Families.
