Canadian Studies in Population: Special Issue on Families in Canada

The Vanier Institute of the Family has collaborated with the Canadian Studies in Population (CSP), a peer-reviewed scholarly journal focused on demography and population-related issues, to produce a special issue focused on families in Canada (published in March 2020).

As guest editor, we have curated a variety of interconnected and complementary research related to families and family life to highlight some of the important work being done across the country. The contributing researchers bring perspectives from multiple disciplines, backgrounds and regions in Canada, and many were involved with our Families in Canada Conference events in 2019 and 2020.

The papers in this collection make distinct and valuable contributions to Canadian research on families, as they identify and examine data gaps, provide nuance and clarity to existing research, and highlight the rich diversity inherent in family life. It’s as much about how we learn about families as it is on what we’ve learned.

To maximize the reach of this family research, all of the articles are in open access in English. Moreover, we have also translated the full articles into French. We’ve also prepared short, plain-language Research Recaps providing a summary of each paper, as well as one-page Research Briefs, all available for download below.

We wish to thank Simona Bignami, Editor of Canadian Studies in Population, and her entire team for this opportunity to continue the conversation on families and family well-being with those who study, serve and support families in Canada.

All of the articles in this issue are available in full in English and French, and to maximize reach, we’ve also prepared short, plain-language Research Recap articles as well as one-page Research Briefs, all available below.
