Ray Ali

Interim Board Member

Ray Ali currently co-chairs the Alumni Committee and in this capacity was nominated to be a member of the Vanier Board for a one year term in 2019.

First serving on the Vanier Institute’s Board of directors from 1997 to 2003, Ray chaired the Program Committee and served on the Executive Committee. He was also asked to sit on the Nomination Committee in 2008.

Professionally, Ray was a Marriage and Family Therapist as well as a co-principal in a research consulting firm. As a therapist, he was highly sought after as a practitioner, lecturer, workshop facilitator, writer and consultant for a number of media outlets.

Ray is an author who has written on a variety of topics related to family life, including youth and behaviour management. He has also researched and co-authored a number of discussion papers for various departments of the Government of Manitoba.

Ray now occupies his time doing volunteer work for a number of grassroots organizations and was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee Medal for volunteerism. He is dedicated community activist is such areas as food security, poverty and community safety related issues. He is inspired by participating and witnessing positive changes at the individual and community levels.

Ray is now retired and lives in Winnipeg with his wife of 42 years, Elaine. They have two adult children.
