Research Snapshot: Exploring Lived Experiences of Pain in Military Families
Highlights from a study about experiences of pain in military families
Although many Veterans/military members live with chronic pain stemming from their service, the military mindset encourages the suppression of pain and associated emotions to avoid appearing “weak.” This can result in a cycle of mental health issues and chronic physical conditions.
This study examined how chronic pain is experienced and perceived among Canadian Armed Forces Veterans/members, and their spouses and children.
This research builds on our growing understanding of the Family Wellbeing component of the Vanier Institute’s Family Diversities and Wellbeing Framework.
