David Northcott (Vice-Chair)

David is a Past Chair of the Board of Directors at the Vanier Institute, a role he held from 2012 to 2015. With a passionate commitment to food security issues and human rights, he has been a leader in Canada’s not-for-profit sector and is former Executive Director at the Winnipeg Harvest Food Bank. An active member of his community, David has volunteered with many boards, including at The Lady Bug Foundation, and Basic Income Manitoba. He is a founder of the Canadian Association of Food Banks and the Manitoba Association of Food Banks, and was an NGO member of the Canadian delegation to the UN’s Second World Food Summit in 2002.

For his efforts in the poverty field, he was named a member of the Order of Manitoba in 2000 and received the Queen’s Canada 125 Medal for Community Service. As well, David received the Queen’s Jubilee medal for his continuing efforts in community development. In May 2012, David received the Order of Canada from His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada. In 2014, David was recipient of the Health and Safety Award from Doctors Manitoba, and a Distinguished Service Award from the University of Manitoba for his work on poverty reduction.
